The annual Loyalty@Freddie Awards, now in its fourth year, once again brought together loyalty executives from around the world to hear about best practice case studies from airlines and hotels. Customer standpoints helped spice up the debate (‘discussion’ might be a better word to use here). Whether it was Scott Resnick, Director Loyalty Marketing at Jetblue, calling for an end of 'punitive loyalty' or Air France KLM's Sébastien Reliat Brunetière, Director Loyalty Marketing and Brand Flying Blue, lamenting about the difficulties to create loyalty with millennials, the rich agenda provided plenty of thought-provoking discussion topics and inspiration.

The Loyalty Awards winner presentations proved to be another highlight. The fact that Air France KLM and Norwegian not only won two and one awards respectively this year, and also turned out as the big winners at the subsequent Freddie Awards, shows that the industry and customers share similar views on what effective loyalty programs look like.

The Freddie Awards 2017 will take place straight after the Loyalty@Freddie Awards Conference on 27 April 2017. 

Introduced in 1988 by InsideFlyer magazine's Randy Petersen, the "Freddies" have grown in stature and importance to become the most prestigious member-generated awards in the travel loyalty industry. The goal of the Freddie Awards is to give voice to the frequent flyer and to honor the efforts of an industry that counts more than 300 million members worldwide.

The iconic "Freddie" trophy graces the lobbies of some of the most respected travel loyalty programs throughout the world. The obelisk-shaped statuette is a symbol of excellence that can only be obtained by exceeding the high expectations of frequent travelers.

In 1988, thousands of voters cast Freddie Award ballots. In 2013, 2.9 million ballots were cast. Balloting is available in the following languages: English, German, Spanish, French, Mandarin and Japanese. And voters are able to cast a ballot for their favorite travel loyalty program in one of three geographical regions: The Americas, Europe/Africa and Middle East/Asia/Oceania.
